However, if you are the type that falls so madly in love that you start neglecting the fact that he or she is the only person in the relationship who has control, you might be headed down the road to heart break. It is important that even when it comes to who controls your relationship there should be balance. So, if you are the type that doesn’t even know how your partner is manipulating you, read on to know what he or she might be doing to control the relationship and then start making changes.

SMITTEN KITTEN

This is the easiest way to lose control in your relationship. Even if you are madly in love with your partner and always want their approval, try not to show it. Firstly, he or she will start treating you like a doll and make you do everything they want. Secondly, you need to maintain a sense of yourself and always keep yourself secure. This is not done by behaving like a desperate love puppy. Yes, you are allowed to love him or her unconditionally, at the same time, don’t forget to love yourself. If your partner knows that you’re head-over-heels in love, you can’t really blame them for controlling you. You are, after all, the one that allowed it, so don’t let it get there in the first place.

DON’T ENTERTAIN GAMES

Another trick that your partner could use to maintain the upper hand in your relationship is to start playing games with you. The oldest trick in the book is, of course, playing hard to get. If they aren’t returning your phone calls, or switch from being very affectionate to very aloof, it only means they are trying to play with your mind and keep you guessing. Don’t fall for this. Instead, beat them at their own game and start playing hard to get. Or let them know that you see what they are trying to do and you won’t entertain such behaviour.

THE SEX WEAPON

Both men and women know how hard it is to resist someone who is sexually compatible with you. If you and your partner have an amazing sex life, and they start using sex as a weapon to get you to do what they want, it’s a sure sign that they want to control more than what is happening in the bedroom. Don’t turn into a sex slave; your attitude should be, “I have sex because I want to and not because I need to so desperately.” Once you send out the message, they will know better than to try and manipulate you.

BACK UP PLAN

No man or woman will try to manipulate or control you if they know they don’t stand a chance getting away with it. Therefore, always have a back up plan even when dealing with someone you love. If they cancel plans or can’t see you, don’t let it affect you. Instead, make plans with your friends and let your partner know you can have fun even without them. This way, they will think twice before cancelling on you. If you stay home and mope, he or she will know you can’t get by without them and might start taking you for granted. A note of caution though, if he or she had genuine reasons for not being able to show up, excuse them once or twice but don’t let them make a habit out of it.

THE RIGHT ATTITUDE

Men and women love it when someone puts them on a pedestal. If you are the one who makes your partner feel that you can’t survive one minute without them, you can’t transfer the blame if they start treating you like their doormat. In order to keep the control factor in balance, you need to develop an attitude whereby you insist that your partner and you will always have an equal say in your relationship . Don’t surrender to their whims completely and always remember who you are and then, don’t compromise.
